Dr. Vikram Alva is a Project Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology, Tuebingen, Germany. He uses bioinformatic approaches to study the structure, function, and evolution of proteins. In particular, his research is focused on elucidating the events that led to the emergence of the first folded proteins and their diversification into the many protein families we recognize today. Vikram, a computer engineering graduate from Mangalore University, was a student of the first batch at IBAB. Subsequently, he received his MSc (Bioinformatics) from the University of Tuebingen in 2008 and his PhD (Bioinformatics) from the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in 2012.
