Prof. Giridhar U. Kulkarni

President, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru.

Prof. Kulkarni obtained his PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and carried out postdoctoral research at IISc and at Cardiff University on a Unilever project. He joined JNCASR as a Faculty Fellow, and rose to be Professor. At JNC, he has been the Chairperson of the Materials Unit, Dean-Academic Affairs as well as Dean-Faculty Affairs. He moved to head the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), before returning to JNC to take over as President in January 2020, while continuing to hold Additional charge at CeNS.

Prof. Kulkarni has been a visiting scientist at many institutions including Cardiff; Tokyo; TASC-INFM, Trieste; Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa; Purdue; Institut de Sciences Moléculairesd’ Orsay; Université Paris Sud. He has also been an Adjunct Professor at Birck Nanotechnology Centre, Purdue University.

Prof. Kulkarni has published around 300 publications in reputed journals and has supervised  21 PhDs and 9 MS theses.
