The IBAB SynRISE Fellowship

Advancing Women in STEM

Right from its inception, IBAB has been at the forefront of fostering women’s participation in biotechnology, bioinformatics and related fields, as evidenced by its numerous PG and PhD female alumni and the gender-balanced composition of its faculty. Through mentorship programs, skill-building workshops, and support for grants such as DBT BioCARE and DST WISE, IBAB has continuously strived to provide women researchers with opportunities to excel. Syngene CSR, enabled by The Biocon Foundation, is a key partner in the SynRise mission, and is the corporate social responsibility arm of Biocon. It actively supports women in STEM fields by providing scholarships, mentorship opportunities, and conducting awareness campaigns specifically designed to educate women. Through the SynRise collaboration, IBAB and the Biocon Foundation put forth a shared commitment to empower early career women researchers, paving the way for gender equality in academia and industry.

Three outstanding female students, Roseanne Mascarenhas, Shaurya Singh Rajput and Jolamalini Devakumar, will be supported in their PhD journey by the SynRise Fellowship (from Jan 1, 2025). These scholars, selected for their academic achievements as well as their research potential, will receive financial aid and mentorship to help them focus on ground-breaking scientific work. By alleviating financial constraints and providing a nurturing research environment, the Fellowship will enable these young minds to pursue their aspirations without barriers.
Hearty congratulations to the awardees!
