3-days Offline Hands-on Workshop on
“Introductory Omics and RNA-seq Data Analysis”
11-13 July, 2024

Organised by the Bio-IT Centre at IBAB, Bengaluru

As of Jul 1, 2024, the workshop seats have been filled up. In case of availability, we may open up the registration form on Jul 5, 2024. Watch this space.

The themes of the workshop include:

  • Introduction to UNIX and R programming
  • Hands-on training in the usage of UNIX and R commands
  • Types of Omics Data, Databases and Bioinformatics tools
  • Introduction to NGS technologies and analysis pipelines
  • RNA-seq analysis using HISAT2 and DESeq2
  • Online and commandline tools for data visualization & interpretation

Target Audience:

The workshop is aimed at students, researchers, and technicians who wish to include omics, particularly transcriptomics and RNA-seq, in their work but may not have sufficient training in/awareness of the required workflows. Ph.D. scholars/postdoctoral fellows/JRFs/faculty involved in molecular biology or clinical research are encouraged to apply. The workshop will also be beneficial to those pursuing M.Sc./M.Tech. in Biotechnology/Life Sciences/Microbiology/Biosciences who may be interested in transitioning to Omics-focused opportunities in academia or industry. Teachers from undergraduate, medical and postgraduate teaching institutions and research institutes across Karnataka are especially encouraged to apply. Minimal eligibility is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree.

Only 30 candidates will be selected for this workshop on a first-come basis.

About Bio-IT Centre:

The Bio-IT Research and Training Centre (Bio-IT Centre) was established at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) in 2010 with support from the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeITY), the Government of India, and the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka. Bio-IT Centre has a state-of-art sequencing facility with the high-throughput sequencer HiSeq 2500 and several accessory equipments such as a Hi-Scan system for Illumina bead array and microarray-based imaging, Qubit, C-bot, Covaris, Bio-analyzer and Agilent 2200 Tape-station for the processing of DNA and RNA samples, Stratagene Mx 3000 for Real-Time PCR, and 3500 Dx Genetic Analyzer for capillary electrophoresis based sequencing. Bio-IT Centre provides sequencing and analysis services in either collaborative or service mode. The Centre also regularly organizes introductory and advanced bioinformatics and NGS analysis workshops.
