3-day Offline Hands-on Workshop on
“Introduction to Machine Learning in Genomics”
21- 23 September 2023
Organised by the Bio-IT Centre at IBAB, Bengaluru
The themes of the workshop include:
- Introduction to types of Genomics Data, Databases and Bioinformatics tools.
- Introduction to UNIX and R programming.
- Hands-on training in the usage of UNIX commands and Working in the Bio conductor R environment.
- Introduction to NGS technologies and NGS data analysis pipelines.
- Bacterial genome assembly pipelines (de novo and reference-based) followed by gene annotation.
Target Audience:
The course is aimed at students, researchers, and technicians who wish to include genomics and NGS data analysis in their work but may not have sufficient training in/awareness of the required workflows. Ph.D. scholars/postdoctoral fellows/JRFs/faculty involved in pure experimental biological research are encouraged to apply. The course will also be beneficial to those pursuing M.Sc./M.Tech. in Biotechnology/Life Sciences/Microbiology/Biosciences who may be interested in transitioning to NGS/bioinformatics-focused opportunities in academia or industry. Teachers from undergraduate and postgraduate teaching institutions and research institutes across Karnataka are also encouraged to apply. Minimal eligibility is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree.
Only 20 – 25 candidates will be selected for this workshop on a first-come basis.

About Bio-IT Centre:
The Bio-IT Research and Training Centre (Bio-IT Centre) was established at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) in 2010 with support from the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeITY), the Government of India, and the Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka. Bio-IT Centre has a state-of-art sequencing facility with the high-throughput sequencer HiSeq 2500 and several accessory equipments such as a Hi-Scan system for Illumina bead array and microarray-based imaging, Qubit, C-bot, Covaris, Bio-analyzer and Agilent 2200 Tape-station for the processing of DNA and RNA samples, Strata gene Mx 3000 for Real-Time PCR, and 3500 Dx Genetic Analyzer for capillary electrophoresis based sequencing. Bio-IT Centre provides sequencing and analysis services in either collaborative or service mode. The Centre also regularly organizes introductory and advanced bioinformatics and NGS analysis workshops.
About IBAB:
