IBAB’s Bio-IT Centre & Department of Agronomy, Food, Natural resources, Animals and Environment (DAFNAE), University of Padova, Italy jointly organized an Online Hands-on “International Workshop on Metabarcoding and Metagenome Analysis” from 15-17 Dec, 2020 moderated by Dr. Gaurav Sharma and Dr. Subha Srinivasan from IBAB and Prof. Piergiorgio Stevanato from DAFNAE (University of Padova, Italy). 36 participants from various nationalities and diverse academic backgrounds were selected for this international workshop. After inauguration by Prof. Hosahalli S. Subramanya, Director IBAB, the workshop hosted talks from Prof. Andrea Squartini (University of Padova, Italy), Dr. Bibha Choudhary, Dr. Shivakumara Siddaramappa (IBAB, Bengaluru), Prof. Piergeorgio Stevanato and Dr. Subhashini Srinivasan. Dr. Subhashini Srinivasan of IBAB gave 4 plus hours of lecture over two days covering concepts and pipelines involved in metagenome data analysis. Participants were trained in the basics of LINUX, NGS technologies, 16SrRNA amplicon metagenomics, and whole metagenome sequencing analysis. Six wonderful trainers i.e., Sneha Murty, Sagar Desai, Saurabh Whadgar, Anitha Bavikatte (IBAB, Bengaluru), Samathmika Ravi, and Saptarathi Deb (University of Padova, Italy) assisted the participants in the online hands-on training. Overall, the workshop was a great success at both training and participation levels. The anonymous feedback showed that the participants were satisfied with their workshop experience.
