The Mazumdar-Shaw Chair in Computational Biology
Dr. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has played a key role in growing the biotech ecosystem in Bangalore, in Karnataka and in the country overall. She has also been involved with IBAB since its conception, and has made vital contributions to its sustenance and growth.
IBAB is very pleased to announce that Dr. Mazumdar-Shaw has instituted the “The Mazumdar-Shaw Chair in Computational Biology” at IBAB. Computational biology is an evolving and broad area impacting all aspects of life sciences. This Research Chair will support the salary and research of a professor of eminence in this upcoming area.
Prof. N. Yathindra will be the first holder of this Chair. He has worked in the area of computational structural biology for several decades, first as a student in the Department of Biophysics, Madras University, led by Prof. G N Ramachandran. He continued his work in Wisconsin as a senior post-doctoral fellow, and then returned to Madras University as a faculty member, where he spent most of his career. He moved to IBAB in 2004, which he led as a Director until early 2018. Prof. Yathindra’s contribution in building IBAB into an institute of eminence is immense.
